The Mexican American Bar Foundation proudly announces the opening of the application season for its California Bar stipend program, now in its third year. Established in 1991 by volunteer lawyers and judges, the Foundation has pursued its mission of promoting diversity in the legal profession through education by awarding scholarships to Latino law students. The bar stipend program sets aside funds to assist graduating third- and fourth-year law students with bar examination related expenses. In awarding bar stipends, the Foundation will consider the applicant’s financial need, academic achievement, community service, leadership experience and any hardship experienced in pursuing an education. Stipends typically range from $500 to $2,000.
ELIGIBILITY
Eligibility is limited to graduating students: (1) whose ancestors are from Mexico, Central America, Cuba, or any other neighboring Spanish-speaking country or territory; (2) who currently attend ABA-accredited law schools in Los Angeles County (Loyola, Pepperdine, Southwestern, UCLA, and USC); and (3) who will sit for the February 2012, July 2012, or February 2013 California Bar Examination. The Foundation regrets that it does not have the resources to award scholarships to other students.

PLEASE TYPE OR PRINT. The quality and accuracy of your application are critical. Incomplete or late applications will not be considered. Applications must be postmarked in hard copy or received via e-mail on or before February 17, 2012. NO HAND-DELIVERED OR IN-PERSON SUBMISSIONS WILL BE ACCPETED. (Documents that cannot be scanned or attached to electronically submitted applications may be sent under separate cover.) The Foundation will select applicants based on the written submission; interviews will not be conducted. Most bar stipend recipients will be notified in March 2012. Awards will be sent to students two to three months before the administration of the bar examination, or as soon as practicable, upon their having provided satisfactory proof of (1) registration for the February 2012, July 2012, or February 2013 California Bar Examination and (2) enrollment in a bar review course.
