The Mexican American Bar Foundation proudly announces the opening of the application season for its annual scholarship awards program and its California Bar stipend program. Established in 1991 by volunteer lawyers and judges, the Foundation has pursued its mission of promoting diversity in the legal profession through education by awarding scholarships to Latino law students.
To date, these awards total $850,000, including $700,000 in the form of 238 scholarships to 198 individual law students, plus another $150,000 in stipends to law graduates studying for the bar examination, savings bonds to elementary and middle school children, and grants to community organizations. In awarding scholarships, the Foundation’s Scholarship Committee considers the applicant’s financial need, academic achievement, community service, leadership experience and any hardship experienced in pursuing an education. Scholarships typically range up to $5,000.
The bar stipend program sets aside funds to assist graduating third- and fourth-year law students with bar examination related expenses. In awarding bar stipends, the Foundation will consider the applicant’s financial need, academic achievement, community service, leadership experience and any hardship experienced in pursuing an education. Stipends typically range from $500 to $2,000.
